The gentlemen of the city would have seats in the boxes above the theater floor. There is a dumbwaiter from the bar to the balcony so the "ladies" could serve the gentlemen as they watched the show. |

In the basement of the Birdcage Theater there was gambling and other activities. Legend has it that some faro games were in continuous operation day-and-night for months on end. Miners would find some silver, bring it to the Birdcage, and promptly lose it. |

Also in the basement of the Birdcage Theater were a number of bedrooms used by the "ladies" of the theater. |
